Arty’s mother, Florence, lived in Brooklyn,
N.Y. when she was pregnant with him. Florence gave birth to Arty
on January 08, 1929 in their home on a kitchen table. Unfortunately
his mother passed on three days after he was born. Arty was raised
by his maternal aunts and uncles, Aunt Hazel, Uncle Artie, Aunt
Edna, Uncle Eric, Uncle Elwood (Daddy), Uncle Howard, Uncle Ralph,
and his Nana.
Arty lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. his entire childhood
and at the age of 19 he joined the U.S. Navy for a period of two
years. While in the Navy he was a helicopter mechanic. In 1948,
Arty married Ruth Hutchinson and they had four children together,
Ginny, Susan, Eileen, and Arthur. At 37 years of age, Arty and
his family moved to Long Island NY.
Arty worked most of his life as a truck driver,
first for Borden’s Ice Cream and secondly driving a fuel truck.
Arty then chose to work civil service, working for the Hicksville
School District (in New York) in the grounds maintenance department.
Arty retired young so that he could enjoy his retirement.
In 1986, Arty left New York to move to Florida.
A short while after getting to Florida, Arty and his wife divorced.
Arty then met Marilyn Frasch in Spring Hill. From that point on
Arty really seemed to enjoy his retired life even more.
Arty was in numerous organizations all of his
life to include The American Legion, The Lions Club, The DAV,
and The WHACS, as well as numerous gun clubs. While in these organizations,
he was always there to help whether it was a fund raising event
or just working around the club facility, you always knew you
could count on Arty. Included with all these organizations, he
played softball several days a week and he golfed too!!
Arty spent his life enjoying
his time with his family, and touched each family member and friend
in such a manner that not one of us will forget. And he continues
to touch us daily when we see our
Dragonflys in our daily lives.
Dad, all of us love you with all of our hearts and you will be
in our thoughts and minds everyday.

father... Arnold "SPARKY" Watts
